Marie was born March 30, 1925 on the family farm 3 1/2 miles west of Havelock, the daughter of Frank and Katherine (Herberholz) Engelman. She grew up in the area, helped on the family farm, and did housework for area families from time to time. Marie attended rural schools in Havelock Township through the 7th grade, and then attended the 8th grade at St. Mary’s Catholic School.

Marie married John F. Krebs on October 29, 1946 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, New England, and they made their home on a farm east of New England for 48 years. In 1994, she and her husband moved to Bismarck. Marie was a member and past president of the St. Mary’s Altar Guild. While on the farm, she enjoyed gardening, baking, and was noted for a special talent in mending for family and non-family members. Her children were the most fashionably dressed farm children with her perfectly stitched patches. They brought her many difficult projects which she returned to them in nearly new condition. In her retirement, Marie spent much time crocheting and working crossword puzzles. She kept a daily diary starting in her teen years and continuing until her death. Marie’s children treasure these keepsake diaries.

Marie is survived by her nine children, Ron (Karen A.) Krebs, Norwalk, Iowa, Gary (Katy) Krebs, Kennewick, Wash., Sr. Lavonne Krebs, SSND, Mankato, Minn., Marilyn Mohrman, Jacksonville, Fla., Jeanette Krebs, Bismarck, Elaine (Bob) David, Bismarck, Rick (Kathy) Krebs, Bismarck, Charles (Margaret) Krebs, Jamestown, and Sharon (Marty) Kendrex, Portales, N.M.; 18 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; four step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Helen (Adam) Schafer, Elgin; and one brother, Laurence Engelman, Bismarck.
