Marie Tormaschy, 81, Dickinson, a 26 year survivor of breast cancer died Thursday, May 5, 2016 at Sanford Health, Bismarck. Marie’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Fr. Keith Streifel as the celebrant. Interment will take place at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation will be on Monday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, with a rosary & vigil at 7 p.m., with Deacon Al Schwindt presiding.

Marie Lech was born February 18, 1935 on the family farm south of Gladstone, the daughter of Frank and Magdalena (Kolling) Lech. She was raised on the farm until 1948 when the family moved into Dickinson. She attended St. Patrick’s Grade School and graduated from Dickinson High School. She then went to work at Osborn Studio, retouching photos.

Marie met Richard Tormaschy and the two were united in marriage on October 20, 1954 in Dickinson. To this union seven children were born, Susann, Deb, Don, Jeanette, Sandie, Jody and Jane.

She enjoyed canning, gardening, baking bread, ice cream, quilting, and going square dancing. Her greatest joy was her “babies”. She loved all of her 17 grandkids and 22 great-grandkids. She truly loved being with children.

She was the head cook at St. Joseph’s for several years, and then worked at Lincoln Elementary before retiring two years ago.

Marie is survived by her husband of 61 years, Richard; their children, Deb (Dave) Krebs, Dickinson, Donald Tormaschy, Dickinson, Jeanette (Terry) Wyckoff, Dickinson, Sandie (Frank) Dillman, Grassy Butte, Jody (Chuck) Gresser, Dickinson, and Jane (Pat) Frank, Dickinson; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; sisters, Theresa, Lena, Helen, Marge and Regina; brothers, Joe (Betty), and Steve (Ruth); and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Susann; granddaughter, Elizabeth; parents; sisters, Katherine, Ann, and Rose; and brother, Frank.
