Marietta Ann Hollinger, 78, of Rapid City, SD, passed away at home surrounded by her family on Saturday, March 16, 2024. Marietta’s Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 11, 2024 at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church, Lefor with Fr. Dennis Schafer as celebrant. Please join the family for fellowship and refreshments following the service at the Lefor KC Club.
A Memorial Service was held at St. Therese The Little Flower Church in Rapid City, SD on March 23, 2024.
Marietta Lefor was born September 11, 1945 to Harry and Dorothy (Bayer) Lefor in Dickinson, ND. She was one of nine children. She was raised on the family farm in Lefor where she attended Lefor Grade School and graduated from Lefor High School in 1963. She later attended Mount Marty College in Yankton, SD, and Dickinson State University.
Marietta married her high school sweetheart, John Hollinger on August 28, 1965, at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Lefor. Together they raised three children while farming and raising dairy cows on the family farm until 1984. They moved to Rapid City, SD in 1994. During this time Marietta worked at Scheel’s until she retired.
Marietta and John spent a lot of time camping. She enjoyed reading, puzzles, traveling, attending events in Deadwood, bowling, playing cards and bingo, watching her kids and grandkids sports and hobbies, all while spending quality time with her family whom she loved very much.
She was also a member of the St. Elizabeth’s Christian Mothers.
Marietta is survived by her husband of 58 years, John Hollinger; children, Troy (Brenda) Hollinger of Lefor, Dion Hollinger of Lefor, and Shari (Lee) Stein of Gladstone; grandchildren, Levi (Jamie) Hollinger of Gladstone, Tanner (Jared) Kaufman of Gladstone; great-grandchild, Cooper Kaufman of Gladstone; siblings, Myron (Noreen) Lefor of Aberdeen, SD; Randy Lefor of Phoenix, AZ, Duane (Carmel) Lefor of Lefor, and Bernetta (Jim) Weaver of Rapid City, SD; sister-in-law, Rochelle Lefor of Dickinson; along with many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; parents-in-law; sister, Rose Marie; brothers, Harry Jr., James Allen, and Francis; sister-in-law, Jenny; daughter-in-law, Lori Hollinger.
