Marilyn (Matteson) Ross, 81, Livingston, Texas, formerly of Fryburg, died Monday, July 16, 2012 at Houston, Texas. A Service of Remembrance for Marilyn will be at 4 p.m., Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at the Belfield Lutheran Church, Belfield, with Rev. Roger Dieterle officiating.
Marilyn Joubert was born September 2, 1931 on the family place south of Fryburg, the daughter of Noah and Marie (Stockstad) Joubert. The family moved to Milnor in 1936 where she was raised and educated. She returned to Fryburg to visit family and met Bud Matteson. The two were united in marriage on September 9, 1949 in Belfield. Together they farmed and ranched in the Fryburg area until Bud’s death on December 31, 1990. Marilyn moved to Texas one year later to be near her eldest son. While there she met Charlie Ross and the two of them were married on August 19, 2006.
She enjoyed gardening, being around horses, fishing, sewing, dancing, and cake decorating. Her greatest joys came from being with family and friends.
Marilyn is survived by her children, Debbie (Darnell) Okerson, Hot Springs, S.D., Curt (Pamela Schaaf) Matteson, Livingston, Texas, Rob (Mary Kay Hegstad) Matteson, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and René (Joey) Berger, Belfield; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; seven siblings, Alethe Krause, Boise, Idaho, Norma Schuessler, Lisbon, Jerry (Darlene) Joubert, Lake Park, Minn., Edith (Larry) Raatz, Valley City, Kathy Ingman, Dickinson, Kenneth (Susan) Joubert, Coos Bay, Ore., and Margie (Ronald) Sagvold, Lisbon; and brother-in-law, Bill Olson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud; her parents; one brother, Paul Joubert; one sister, Doris Olson; and brother-in-law, Lawrence Krause.
