Martha Emily Kovash was born March 15, 1924 on her great-grandfather’s homestead north of New Hradec and was delivered by her great-grandmother. She was raised and educated at New Hradec, attending Sts. Peter & Paul Grade School. Martha was unable to attend high school until she was 18 due to the war, and she was needed on the farm. She graduated from Model High School in Dickinson at the age of 21. She then went on to earn her nursing degree at St. Alexius Nursing program in Bismarck.

Martha met Raymond Adcock at a dance in New Hradec and the two were united in marriage on March 3, 1957. The two made St. Patrick’s as their church home. She had worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital for one year prior to beginning a 36 year career at Rogers & Gumpers Clinic.

She belonged to the Art Association, Nurses Association, Rosary Society of New Hradec, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, and the Czech Heritage Society. She enjoyed needle work, knitting, crocheting, bobbin lace, growing flowers, making and giving away peanut brittle, and honey cookies. Her and Ray loved to travel.
