Martha M. Koppinger May 24, 1937 - May 29, 2021

Date of Funeral

Tuesday, June 1, 2021

Martha M. Koppinger, age 84, of Dickinson  passed away on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at Benedictine Living Center in Dickinson after a short battle with cancer. Martha’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., June 1, 2021 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with Fr. Robert Shea as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Ladbury Funeral Service, with a rosary and vigil at 7 p.m., with Deacon Ross Reiter presiding.

Martha was born May 24, 1937 in Dickinson to Louis and Agnes (Ridl) Karsky. She was raised and grew up on the family farm and graduated from high school in 1955.

In 1956 she was united in marriage to her best friend, Adam Koppinger in Dickinson. They spent many years working together and operating the family business: Koppinger Oil. Martha also worked at the Queen City Club as well as at home raising her four children. Adam and Martha spent many of their best years camping, traveling and dancing the polka. They enjoyed many Saturday nights at the Eagles Club where she was an auxiliary member.  These truly were the best days of her life. In June of 1997, Martha unexpectedly lost the love of her life on a camping trip and has not gone a day without missing him, talking about him and praying for him.

Family was everything to Martha. She was a lover of life, family, sports, Vikings football and a cold Bud Light. There was not a Friday that didn’t go by without a family happy hour and never a Sunday without purple and gold and cheering on the Vikings. Martha lived for watching her grandkids and now great-grandkids play sports and never missed a game. She truly was their biggest fan, and they will all remember “one more is all you need”.  Martha welcomed everybody into her home and treated them as family. She had many “extra” kids and grandkids she would wine and dine and treat like family every time they stopped by. Martha will be remembered by many for her larger than life personality, her constant outside voice, her hospitality and her strong faith. She could always be counted on to say a rosary for her family and friends when needed!

Martha is survived by her children:  Denice (Ron) Van Doorne, Dickinson, Kathy Koppinger, Dickinson, Mike (Juanita) Koppinger, Dickinson, and Sandy Koppinger, Belle Fourche, S.D.; eight grandchildren;  Adam (Alissa) Van Doorne, Bismarck, Tessa (Chris) Johnson, Dickinson, Alex Koppinger, Bismarck, Paul Koppinger, Fargo, Weston Glassheim, Dickinson, Ann (Trevor) Coates, Dickinson, Evan Koppinger, Fargo, and Hunter Glassheim, Dickinson; four great-grandchildren; Taylor and Ethan Van Doorne, Jaxson Maas and Bentlee Johnson; and her siblings, Judy Hamann, Alvin (Patti) Karsky, and Raymond (Darlene) Karsky.

She was preceded in death by her husband and love of her life Adam Koppinger on June 19, 1997; her parents, Agnes and Louis Karsky; and siblings and spouses, Richard (Mildred) Karsky, Lawrence (Elaine) Karsky, Lyle Hamann, and David (Georgie) Karsky.
