Martha was the youngest in the family and spent most of her life living on the family homestead with her brother Albert, tending her garden, feeding her chickens, doing her chores around the place and taking care of her father and mother. Martha loved to smile and greeted everyone with a smile, she had great respect for priests and religious, and love for family. She was strongly influenced by her mother and she could often be heard quoting something her mother said. She played organ for countless weddings, funerals and other functions around the community for 62 years, she even played the piano occasionally for the other residents of St. Luke’s after she moved into the nursing home. Martha made friends easily because of her kind and loving nature, she welcomed everyone and was an extremely honest person.

In 1987, Martha, her brother Albert and her sister Elsie all moved to Dickinson and shared a house. This was the first time Martha had indoor plumbing and running water in the house. Her brother Albert passed away in 1998, followed by her sister Elsie in 2002, Martha’s surviving sister, Hazel, moved in with her. In 2008 both Martha and Hazel moved to Hawks Point retirement home.
