Marvin Marthaller, 77, Dickinson, died Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at CHI St. Alexius, Dickinson. Marvin’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 4, 2017 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dickinson with Msgr. Patrick Schumacher as the celebrant. Interment will take place at a later date at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. with a Rosary and Vigil at 4 p.m. at Ladbury Funeral Service with Deacon Bob Stockert presiding.

Marvin “Marv” Marthaller was born May 22, 1939 in Mott the son of Alvin and Katherine (Kuntz) Marthaller. He was raised and educated in Mott, where he graduated from the eighth grade. Marv served four years in the North Dakota National Guard.

Marv was united in marriage to Ida Fischer on May 19, 1959 and together they had four kids. They started out working on a farm milking cows. He then worked for Milton Rue Construction building the Interstate bridges and overpasses. In 1969, they moved to Dickinson where he went to work for the Husky Briquetting Plant until it closed. He then went to work at True Value. His wife Ida passed away August 23, 2001.

Marv met Bev (Kjilbak) Sivak at work and they were married September 6, 2003. He retired in 2007 and together they bought and built a place west of Dickinson. They love staying busy, gardening and doing home improvement projects. He enjoyed fishing, collecting old cars, tinkering in the garage and especially spending time with family and friends. He also enjoyed collecting antiques, watching NASCAR, PBR and wrestling.

Marv is survived by his wife Bev; their children, Rick (Betty) Marthaller, Aberdeen, S.D., Jeff (Brenda) Marthaller, Dickinson, Cindy (Ed) Broer, Coon Valley, Wis., Shawna (Mike) Paul, Linton, Jodi (Brad) Chinn, Grassy Butte, Shannon Sivak, Worden, Mont., Sheldon (Katrina) Sivak, Bismarck; daughter-in-law, Rosann Marthaller, Florida; 28 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Jim (Regina) Marthaller, Mandan, Lary (Carolyn) Marthaller, Dickinson, Marlene (Donald) Wagendorf, Regent, Rosalie Burwick, Beulah, Robert (Twila) Marthaller, Bismarck, Stan (Mary) Marthaller, Bismarck and Myron Marthaller, Orange County, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Ida; son, Scott; his parents; son, Shane Sivak; and two nephews.
