Mary D. Bailey, 95, Dickinson, died Saturday, June 18, 2011 at the home of her daughter in Oxbow. Mary’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 23, 2011 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Fr. Jeff Zwack as the celebrant. Interment will take place at the Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, S.D. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, with a rosary & vigil at 7 p.m., with Deacon Jerry Volk presiding.
Mary Lisko was born August 20, 1915 in Dickinson, the daughter of Anton and Mary (Fisher) Lisko. She was raised and educated in Dickinson. Following her graduation from high school, she went to work for J.C. Penney’s to help support her family after the sudden death of her father.
Mary was united in marriage to Ernest Bailey on November 18, 1937. She worked as a bookkeeper for Bailey’s Tire Store and Bailey’s R.V. until they were sold. Her love of people also led her to working as a census worker, an election pollster, and a Welcome Wagon Lady. She also thru the Senior Volunteer program tutored younger children with their schooling. They were married for 44 years at the time of Ernest’s death in August of 1981.
Mary belonged to the Catholic Daughters, German/Hungarian Club, the Elks, and VFW Auxiliary where she served as State President in 1968-1969. She enjoyed playing cards, especially pinochle, going to casinos, volunteering and having coffee with her neighbors. She truly loved life!!
Mary is survived by three children, Timothy (Julie) Bailey, Auburn, Wash., Jane (Frank) Pearson, Oxbow, and Mary Lou (Darcy) Banning, Brighton, Colo.; three sisters-in-law, Clara Lisko, Bismarck, Bertha Lisko, Killdeer, and Myrtle Karney, Kelso, Wash.; seven grandchildren, Mike, Pat, Jay, Grant, Shaun, Shayna and Ryan; two step-grandchildren, Stacy and Jim; nine great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest; her parents; son, Richard; brothers, Isadore, Ted, Adolf, Anton, Edwin and George; and sisters, Philomine, Mary, Mildred, Agnes and Anne.
