Mary F. Pavlish, 88, of Dickinson, passed away on Friday, November 1, 2024 at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson. Mary’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Friday, November 8, 2024 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, South Heart, with Fr. Shane Campbell as the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, and will continue one hour prior to the mass at the church on Friday. There will be a rosary & vigil at 7 p.m., Thursday at Ladbury Funeral Service.
Mary F. Kadrmas was born on October 3, 1936, on the family farm located south of Manning to Vitres Kadrmas and Mary F. Ficek. From 1943-1951, Mary attended five years of country school and three years of parochial school in Dunn and Stark Counties. In 1952, Mary was employed by Woolworth’s in downtown Dickinson. In August of that year, Mary’s parents sold their farm in Stark County and built a house in Dickinson. This house is located at 280 9th Street West. From 1953 until May of 1954, Mary worked for Lynch Grocery.
On June 3, 1954, Mary married Bernard V. “Ben” Pavlish at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in New Hradec. For the first six months after their marriage, the young couple made their home at the farmstead of Ben’s parents. In December of 1954, Mary and Ben purchased a farm located four miles north of South Heart. On the family farm Mary was a homemaker and farm wife. She was married for 61 years. Her husband passed away in 2015. After selling the farm in 2016, Mary purchased a condominium in Dickinson. In October of 2019, Mary moved into an apartment at Edgewood Hawks Point. In early October of 2024, Mary’s health declined quickly. She was admitted to St. Benedict’s Health Center on October 21, and passed away 11 days later.
Mary and her husband were life-long members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in South Heart. She was a member of the Christian Mother’s Group. For 27 years, Mary was a Eucharistic Minister and for 15 years she sang in the church choir. In the 1970s, Mary and her husband sang with “The Dakota Czechs” singing group. Her hobbies were baking, sewing, and embroidery.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Lynn Chateauvert of Prescott, Arizona; son, Bernie Pavlish of Dickinson; daughter-in-law, Anne Pavlish of Rapid City, South Dakota; granddaughter, Carolyn Moir of Bryan, Texas; grandson, Christopher (Melissa) Pavlish of Dickinson; great-grandchildren, Victor, Kyra, and Jackie of Dickinson; and brother, Clarence (Beanie) Kadrmas of Bismarck.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Vitres and Mary; husband, Ben Pavlish; son, Carey Pavlish; sister, Elsie Jodlowski of Great Falls, Montana; sister, Betty Binstock of Mandan; brothers-in-law, Clarence Binstock and Julius Jodlowski.
