Mary Knopik, 88, Dickinson, died Saturday, February 27, 2010 at her home. Mary’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Fr. Jim Braaten as the celebrant. Interment will take place in the Spring at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., Monday and from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., Tuesday at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson. There will be a rosary and vigil at 7:30 p.m., Monday at Ladbury Funeral Service with Deacon Bob Stockert presiding.

Mary Ficek was born August 1, 1921 on the family farm northeast of Dickinson in Dunn County, the daughter of Thomas and Emma (Hanel) Ficek.

Mary and Hubert C. Knopik were united in marriage on June 29, 1948 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. They farmed together their entire lives, first four miles west of Belfield. The family moved into Belfield for a short time and then moved to a farm 12 miles south of South Heart and remained there until they retired in 1991 and moved into Dickinson.

Mary loved her faith and she was a past member of the Christian Mothers in Belfield. She also loved to cook, garden and grow flowers.

Mary is survived by her husband, Hubert; their three children, Marlene (Ray) Chorne, South Heart, Ken (Bernie) Knopik, Kalona, Iowa, and Keith (Leora) Knopik, South Heart; six grandchildren, John Chorne, Cory Chorne, Jen (Brad) Hetzler, Amanda Chorne, Mike (Katie) Chorne, and Shawn (Jessie) Berger; four great-grandchildren, Joey Wagner, Paige and Chase Hetzler, and Zackary Berger; one sister-in-law, Irmgard Ficek, Dickinson; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother; a brother, John; and a sister, Minnie.
