Mavis Kainz, age 72, Dickinson, passed away at her home surrounded by family on Saturday June 22, 2024, after a 23 year battle with cancer. Mavis Specht was the youngest of seven children. She was born at the family home in Dawson to John and Emma (Hausauer) Specht on November 27, 1951.

Mavis met Arnold Kainz, her soul mate and life partner in 1968 on the playground in Gladstone. They later married on May 20, 1972. To this union, their only son William (Bill or Billy) was born. Over the span of her life, Mavis worked various jobs, but her favorites were wife, mother, and grandmother.

Mavis spent the majority of her married life being a farm wife. She would often be found by Arnie’s side helping to fix fence, haul hay, working cattle, riding in the truck, or bringing lunch out to the field where Arnie was doing farm work.

Mavis also enjoyed her hobbies doing ceramics, wood crafts, and making hand made cards. If you were lucky enough to receive one of her cards, you knew how truly talented she was. Mavis also loved cooking and baking and loved to plan and host a party in the “Gathering Room”. Her Grandkids were her pride and joy. Nothing made her happier than to get to spend time with them or get a text or call from them.

Mavis is survived by her husband of 52 years, Arnold; her son, William “Bill” (Kimberly), Dickinson; grandson, Wyatt, Dickinson; granddaughter, Morgan, Oakdale, MN; siblings, Phyllis Stroh, Longmont, CO, Carolyn Dewall, Lewisville, TX, Rolland (Irene) Specht, Billings, MT, and Edward (Norma) Specht, Alvardo, TX; and brother-in-law, Dennis Lang, Denton, TX.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Emma; and sisters, Pearl (Harold) Binder and Shirley Lang; and brother-in-law, Don Stroh.
