Today, we gather to celebrate the life of Maximus Nelson Chenjerai Chari, born on April 13, 1943, and peacefully called home on December 2, 2024. A man of strength, faith, and love, Maximus lived a life rich with dedication to his family and friends.

From his early days as a police officer to his later years as a commercial driver. Maximus worked tirelessly, providing for his loved ones with unwavering commitment. His journey took him from the heart of Africa to the bustling streets of New York City where he continued his work as a driver, ultimately retiring with a heart full of pride for the legacy he built.

In 1969, Maximus married Annie Msimbe, and though their paths later diverged, their bond remained unbroken, a testament to the deep respect and love they shared. Together, they raised a beautiful family, a family now blessed with eight children, fifteen grandchildren, and the loving presence of his mother, Gogo Diana the great lioness of Dizha.

A devoted Christian, Maximus found strength in his faith, and his deep belief in God guided him through every chapter of his life. He was a man of many words; opinionated funny, and a great conversationalist who could light up any room with his wit and wisdom. He found joy in connection, in laughter, in being with those he loved. Maximus left this world peacefully in the arms of his son, a final moment that reflected the love he had always given. As we say goodbye, we carry his memory with us; his strength, his humor, his love for family, and his unshakable faith. Maximus may no longer walk among us, but his spirit will forever live in the hearts of those who loved him.

Rest in peace, Maximus. You will never be forgotten.
