He grew up on the family farm five miles northwest of Dickinson, along with his three brothers and three sisters. In 1958, Mike took over his father’s 800 acre farm, farming until 1980, when he decided that custom grain harvesting and grain hauling was his passion. Mike hauled for many farmers in the area until retiring in January 2008.

To this union six children were born, Connie (Larry) Hutmacher, Nancy Gaking, Patty (Paul) Carmichael, Tina (Billy) Marsh, Scott Miller, and Holly (Gary) Mosbrucker. Betty passed away on December 30, 1980. Mike re-entered marriage to Irene M. Gaking on March 20, 1982. Irene helped Mike raise his young family and was by his side for 25 years until she passed away on their 25th wedding anniversary, March 20, 2009.

He was a lifetime member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church, the Eagles, and the St. Pius Verein, Schefield. He enjoyed dancing, listening to polka music, playing cards at family gatherings, and writing daily in his diaries.

Mike is survived by his five daughters; six grandchildren, Lacey (Travis) Olheiser, Sarah (Brayden) Nagel, Savannah Gaking, Megan Carmichael, Michael Mosbrucker, and Scott Marsh; four great-grandchildren, Dayton, Chloe and Audrey Olheiser, and Blayne Nagel.
