Mildred Narum was born March 13, 1920 near Amidon, the daughter of Julius and Inga (Jordet) Narum. She received her elementary education in Conner Township and graduated from Model High School at Dickinson in 1938. After doing some domestic jobs, she helped at the telephone exchange at Amidon for a time. She lived in New England most of her life.

Mildred married Hubert Brentrup at Amidon on November 22, 1941, and 11 children were born to them. She was a devoted mother, home maker, barber, referee, carpenter and Mrs. Fix It. Mildred wrote a book about her life on her parents homestead, titled, “As I Remember”, that was laced with a bit of her sense of humor. She believed laughter was the best medicine. Macaully Culkin making a big hit in the movie “Home Alone” made her proud to be his grandmother, but 16 other grandchildren have not taken a lesser stance in her heart.

Millie’s loving heart and ever ready sense of humor and wit made a special friend to all who knew her. She belonged to the Jolly Home Makers and Altar Guild. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, card playing, sports, music, bowling, crafts, horseback riding and dancing.

Mildred is survived by 10 children, Ronald Brentrup, Bowman, Richard (Linda) Brentrup, Littleton, Colo., Janice Byrd, Madison, S.D., Neil (Shirley) Brentrup, Dickinson, Renee King, Gillette, Wyo., Patricia Brentrup, New York, N.Y., Cindy (Ed) Striebel, Rapid City, S.D., Barry Brentrup, New England, Paul Brentrup, Rapid City, S.D., and Greg Brentrup, Dickinson; and 17 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert on August 10, 2003; her parents; two brothers; two sisters; and one son, Jerome.
