Mildred was born July 4, 1918 on the family farm northwest of New Hradec in Billings County, the daughter of Joe and Mary (Kudrna) Hibl. She attended school through the eighth grade, up until her father passed away. She worked several jobs to help support the family. During that time she began working at the Experiment Station where she met the love of her life.
On November 7, 1938 she married Laudie S. Kostelecky at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, New Hradec. They lived with Laudie’s parents for about three years, until they moved to the Joseph Hibl farm northwest of Dickinson. Three years later they purchased the Joseph Kudrna farm northwest of Dickinson, where they farmed until 1974, when they moved into Dickinson. While in Dickinson, Mildred worked at the Dickinson Nursing Home for 25 years.
She was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Rosary Society of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, and St. Ann’s Altar Society. Millie volunteered to lead rosary at St. Wenceslaus and at St. Benedict’s, where she also helped in the coffee shop. She spent many hours crocheting afghans for her family, including her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. Millie loved to cook, which included rohlicky, kolache, koblicky, Easter bread, and homemade noodles for her most famous chicken noodle soup.
Mildred is survived by her children, Kathleen (Raymond) Bren, New Hradec, Adeline Kostelecky, Clinton, Wis., Rodney (Renee) Kostelecky, Dickinson, and Patricia (Lyle) Wolski, Mandan; brothers, Robert Hibl, Grand Junction, Colo., and Joseph (Mary Ann) Hibl, Boulder, Colo.; sisters, Martha Wagner and Dorothy Kostelecky, Dickinson; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Laudie on January 12, 1992; her parents; infant twin sons, Joseph and John; son and daughter-in-law, Ronald (Mary Ann) Kostelecky; siblings and in-laws, George Hibl, Ann (Wilmer) Dohrman, Agnes Hibl, Edward Wagner, and Edwin Kostelecky.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to Heartland Hospice or to the St. Ann’s Altar Society.
