Monica Hushka, 87, Belfield, died on Monday, June 10, 2024 at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson. Monica’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2 p.m., Friday, June 14, 2024 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Belfield with Fr. Shane Campbell as celebrant. Inurnment will take place at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, New Hradec. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson with a rosary and vigil at 6:30 p.m. with Deacon Loren Kordonowy presiding. Visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass on Friday.
Monica Walter was born on October 22, 1936 in Fayette, the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Hutmacher) Walter. She was raised south of Belfield; she attended and graduated from Fryburg School. She went on to attend Dickinson State Teachers College where she received her Teaching Degree and Certificate. Monica taught for a period of time prior to her marriage.
Monica was united in marriage to Raymond Hushka on March 30, 1959 and to this union five children were born. They made their home north of South Heart where they purchased the Hushka family farm.
She enjoyed working on puzzles, gardening, tending to her houseplants, milking cows, family gatherings, traveling, and making homemade ice cream.
Monica is survived by her children, Kevin (Jackie Wolf) Hushka, Belfield, Allan (Laurie) Hushka, Chadron, NE, Bob (Wandee) Hushka, Belfield, Debby (Rowdy) Solberg, Belfield, and Dean (Lola) Hushka, South Heart; grandchildren, Kale Hushka, Chandler (Tasha) Hushka, Cassidy (Joel Espino) Hushka, Megan (Shane) Kubischta, Shantelle (Rick) Petroff, Derek (Danielle) Monger, Perry (Sharon) Solberg, and Tara (Tom) Tostenson; great-grandchildren, Maya Espino, Layla Espino, Alice Petroff, Edgeley Monger, Juniper Monger, Nora Kubischta, Colton Solberg, Dillon Solberg, and Emmet Akin; siblings, Leo (Rose) Walter, MaryAnn Martin, and Hildagard (Tom) Rothe; sister-in-law, MaryAnn Walter; in-laws, Margie Sundgren, Richard (Joan) Hushka, and Rocky Hushka.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, on November 15, 2020; her parents; siblings, Ralph Walter, Barbara Stewart, and RoseMarie Andreas; and in-laws, Gayle Hushka, George Andreas, Howard Martin, John Stewart, and Harold Sundgren.
