Nick Kanski, 84, Fairfield, died Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at St. Benedicts Health Center Dickinson. Nick’s Parastas will be at 10 a.m., Friday, May 4, 2012, at St. Demetrius Ukrainian Catholic Church, Fairfield, with Fr. Taras Miles celebrating. A rosary and panakida at 7 p.m., Thursday at Ladbury Funeral Service with Deacon Leonard Kordonowy presiding and Fred Kanski as leader. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to service time at the church.

Nick was born and raised on the family farm in Indian Springs, (Fairfield, N.D.). When his parents retired in the early seventies, Nick took over the farm and raised small grains and cattle until he retired in 2008.

Nick belonged to the Knights of Columbus, Eagles, Ukrainian Cultural Institute, Fairfield Community Club, and was an Startsy Brat (supervisor of the alter boys) at St. Demetrius Church. Nick’s hobbies included woodworking, photography, picnics, gardening, and collecting antiques of all kinds. Nick was committed to his community and church.

Nick’s mission was to spread love, he often said “ without love—there is nothing” Nick truly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Nick will be missed dearly by all his family and friends.

Nick is survived by three brothers, Harry (Leona), Dickinson, Fred, Dickinson, and Steve (Janice), Pine Dale, Wyo., three sisters, Ann (Roy) Basaraba, Dickinson, Betty (Paul) Haverluk, Richland, Wash., and Sr. Rose Margaret, Sloatsburg, N.Y. as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Sam, Bill, Pete, and Brother John and three sisters, Irene, Josephine, and Helen. Dickinson, North Dakota
