Nick P. Krebs, 85, formerly of New England died Monday, January 19, 2009 at the St. Luke’s Home, Dickinson. Nick’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Friday, January 23, 2009 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Dickinson with Fr. Jeff Zwack as the celebrant and Fr. David Morman and Fr. Basil Atwell, OSB as con-celebrants. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, New England with military honors provided by the New England American Legion, Anton Ulijohn Post #66, and Fr. Basil Atwell, OSB presiding. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Thursday at Ladbury Funeral Service with a rosary and vigil at 7 p.m. with Nick’s Godsons leading the rosary and Fr. Jeff Zwack presiding.
Nick was born July 2, 1923 in Mott, ND, the son of Anton and Rosie (Schmidt) Krebs. He attended several country schools in Hettinger County and graduated from the eighth grade. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was stationed in both the Philippine Islands and Japan.
Nick married MaryAnn Jacobs on October 10, 1955, at St. Henry’s Catholic Church in Regent. They began their life together on a farm east of New England where he farmed, milked cows and raised his family. Nick served on the Rifle Township Board; St. Mary’s School Board in New England and was also a member of the St. Mary’s Band and Athletic Booster clubs, Knights of Columbus, Eagles and St. Pius Verein.
After retiring and moving to Dickinson Nick enjoyed his yard and garden, doing find-a-word books, fishing, playing cards and bar bingo with his grandchildren. He especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. His faith and his family were most important to him.
Grateful for having shared his life are his eight children, Linda Candrian, Dickinson, Ida (Rod) Meier, Regent, Wayne (Rose) Krebs, New England, Joan (Delmar) Meier, Dickinson, Jim (Pauly) Krebs, New England, Leonard (Kristi) Krebs, Dickinson, Deb (Mike) Franchuk, Dickinson and LeAnn (Wayne) Buchholz, Rhame; 24 grandchildren, Michael (Susan), Mariah, and Matthew (Amanda) Candrian, Erica (Eric) Koster and Jon Meier, Eli (Patty), Levi (Dani), Miles, Tyler, Jade and Avery Krebs, Charity (Justin) Rogstad, Nicole and Sarah Meier, Dani Morel, Nikki (Chris) Erickson and Teresa Huck, Jacob, Ashley and Megan Krebs, Ben and Mikayla Franchuk, and Conner and Jenna Buchholz; and five great grandchildren, James Parker and Olivia Candrian, Aidan Koster, Faith Krebs and Kendra Erickson; also survived by four sisters, Violet Dobitz, Sister Rosaleen, Sister Rose Marie and Sister Rose Anthony; two brothers, Anton (Em) and Elmer (Lydia) Krebs; three sisters-in-law, Marie, Charlotte and Louise Krebs; a brother-in-law John Grundhauser; an uncle, Henry (Eva) Krebs; and an aunt, Rose Krebs. He is also survived by MaryAnn’s family and numerous nieces and nephews.
Nick was preceded in death by his wife, MaryAnn, October 6, 2003; his parents; three brothers, John, Adam and Joe; and two sisters, Susan Schroeder and Elizabeth Grundhauser. We love you very much and will miss you always!
