Nick Reis, 92, Belfield, died Saturday, August 7, 2010 at St. Joseph’s Hospital & Health Center, Dickinson. Nick’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Belfield, with Fr. Shannon Lucht as the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Bernard’s Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Belfield American Legion William C. Blair Post #144. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday at Ladbury Funeral service, Dickinson, and will continue from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday at the church. There will be a rosary & vigil at 7 p.m., Tuesday at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services on Wednesday.

Nick was born January 6, 1918 in a sod house north of Dickinson, the son of Peter and Magdalena (Martain) Reis. He received his education while attending school in Billings County.

Nick honorable served in the United States Army during WWII from October 20, 1942 to November 10, 1945. He was in Africa and Italy north of Rome, and a highlight of the war was meeting Pope Pius (12th) and being blessed by him.

Nick married Susanna Huschka on November 4, 1946. He farmed with his family north of Fryburg until 1944, at which time they moved to the farm east of Fryburg where they have continued to live. He belonged to Belfield American Legion, and was a past member of the school board and ASCS board. He enjoyed working on word puzzles and making homemade whistles out of wood and turkey feathers.

Nick is survived by his wife, Susanna; their 11 children, Peter (Karen) Reis, Belfield, Kathleen (John) Jahner, Hettinger, David Reis, Fairfield, Diane (Brian) Koskovich, Dickinson, Ann (Doug) Morel, Dickinson, Edith (Odis) Hewson, Buffalo, S.D., William Reis, Fryburg, Nick (Lavonne) Reis, Dickinson, Marlene (Jeff) Sowden, Billings, Mont., Steve (Lisa) Reis, Lyman, Wyo., and Lisa (Duane) Obrigewitch, Belfield; 40 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Catherine Klein, Belfield, Eleanor Ott, Dickinson, and Leona Obrigewitch, Fargo. He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers, eight sisters, and an infant grandson, Michael Reis.
