Nick S. Hensel, 84, Dickinson, ND, died Thursday, May 10, 2007 at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson. Nick’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Monday, May 14, 2007 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Fr. Jim Braaten as the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Elizabeth’s Cemetery, Lefor. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m., Sunday at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson. There will be a rosary and vigil at 7 p.m., Sunday at Ladbury Funeral Service, with Deacon Bob Stockert presiding.
Nicholas Steven Hensel was born September 26, 1922 on the family farm near Lefor, ND, the son of Nicholas and Elizabeth (Schiff) Hensel. He was raised and educated in the Lefor area having attended country school.
Nick married Helen Jordan on June 6, 1946 at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church, Lefor. Together they farmed and raised their family two miles south of Lefor. Nick and Helen remained on the farm until retiring in 1984 when they moved into Dickinson.
Nick belonged to the Knights of Columbus and the Eagle’s Club. He enjoyed traveling, dancing and attending the Polka Fest, and playing cards.
Nick is survived by his wife, Helen; their three children, Art (Pat) Hensel, Dickinson, Kathy (Paul) Pfiefle, Bismarck, and Brenda (special friend-Gordon Olson) Medeiros, Bismarck; one sister, Mary Lefor, Billings, MT; one brother, Robert (Kathryn) Hensel, Billings, MT; five grandchildren, Paula (Brad) Brosseau, LaDeana (Delbert) Glaser, Jason Pfiefle, LaDonna (Mark) Glaser, and LaDella (Devin) Carlson; and five great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Austin, Alexander, Gage and Benette. He was preceded in death by his parents; and seven siblings, Joseph, Peter, Steve, Frank, Wilbert, Arlene and Darlene.
