Nick Symionow, 104, Dickinson, died Thursday, May 20, 2021 at CountryHouse, Dickinson. Nick’s Divine Liturgy will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at St. Demetrius Ukrainian Catholic Church, Fairfield with Fr. Myroslav Dumych as celebrant. Interment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fairfield. Military Honors will be provided by the Belfield American Legion William C. Blair Post 144. Visitation will be on Monday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a Rosary and Panakhyda at 7 p.m. at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson.
Nick Symionow was born December 22, 1916 on the family homestead in Billings County, the son of Andrew and Anna (Kordonowy) Symionow. He was raised and educated near the home place. Nick joined the CCC’s prior to enlisting in the Army where he served honorably from February 19, 1941 to July 25, 1945, having served overseas part of that time.
Nick returned home and farmed and ranched throughout the rest of his life in the Fairfield area. He was a jack-of-all-trades and was willing to help out anyone. He belonged to the Eagles, American Legion, UCI, and St. Demetrius Church. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, playing cards and he had gone to Rome four times following the discharge from the military.
Nick is survived by his siblings, Mary Shypkoski, Dickinson, Bill Symionow, Springfield, Va., Sister Bernadine, Sloatsberg, New York, Pete (Helen) Symionow, Hermiston, Ore., and Margaret (Arnold) Koffler, Dickinson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, George and Steve; sisters, Kay, Jenny, Agnes, Dorothy and Sister Anisia and infant sister, Mary.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Demetrius Ukrainian Catholic Church or UCI.
