Nute Haag, 81, Dickinson, died Thursday, August 27, 2009 at his home. Nute’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Dickinson with Fr. Jeff Zwack as the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery, Dickinson. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday at Ladbury Funeral Service with a rosary & vigil at 7 p.m., with Fr. Joshua Ehli presiding.

Nute Haag was born February 16, 1928 in Stark County of North Dakota, the son of John and Rosa (Kuntz) Haag. He was raised and educated in the Fairfield area.

Nute married Eugenia “Jean” Palahniuk on July 6, 1957 at St. Demetrius Ukrainian Catholic Church, Fairfield. Together they have made their home in Dickinson where they raised their five children.

Nute had worked in packing plants for several years both in Dickinson and also Williston for a period of time. He had also spent many years in the oil fields prior to becoming a business partner in the Queen City Lockers in Dickinson. Nute eventually went to work for the Dickinson Public Schools as a custodian and following a 19 year career retired.

Nute was a member of the Elks, Eagles, St. Anthony and KC Clubs. He was a horseman and enjoyed attending rodeos. Nute took pride in his yard and enjoyed working in it. His grandchildren were a great joy and he enjoyed time spent with them.

Nute is survived by his wife, Jean; their five children, Ken (April) Haag, Bismarck, Gerard (DeAnn) Haag, Brighton, Colo., Linda (Don) Ludy, Bakersfield, Calif., Connie (Gabe) Kessel, Littleton, Colo., and Tammy (Chris) Klaman, Dickinson; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, two brothers, and two stillborn daughters.
