Olaf G. Sandvick, 84, Dickinson, died Thursday, February 27, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Hospital & Health Center, Dickinson. Ole’s funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, March 6, 2014 at St. John Evan. Lutheran Church, Dickinson. Interment will take place at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, military honors will be provided by the Dickinson Honors Team following the service. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., with the family present to greet and visit with friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.

Ole Sandvick was born August 27, 1929, the son of Ole and Gustine (Bjore) Sandvick at Oakdale. He was raised and educated behind the Killdeer Mountains in Oakdale. He graduated from Killdeer High School in 1948.

Ole enlisted in the Army Medical Corp in 1951 and was stationed at Fitzsimons Army Hospital in Denver, Colo. and Station Medical Center in Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., he served until 1953. Ole then returned to North Dakota and went on to attend Dakota Business College in Fargo, earning a degree in Business and Accounting in 1953. Ole met Ruth Schlecht at Dakota Business College and they were united in marriage on December 26, 1954. Ole and Ruth moved to Columbus and went to work for Burke Divide Electric. They had their 1st child, Duane, who was born in October 1955. Ole and his family then moved to Dickinson, where he went to work for West Plains Electric. Their daughter, Renae was born in March 1959. Their 3rd child, John was born in May 1966. He continued to work as an Office Manager until he retired in 1984.

He had a love for bowling and golf and the Sandvick family was very active in bowling. He was voted in to the Dickinson Bowling Association Hall of Fame. He had a love for woodworking and enjoyed tinkering in his workshop. He was also very involved with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and their various school and extracurricular activities.

Ole was very active in the various fraternal organizations including Jaycees, American Legion, Oddfellows and Lions Club. He was Adjutant of the American Legion, Chef De Gare of the 40 ET 8, Past Grand Master ND of IOOF Oddfellows, Past President Dickinson Jaycees and Past District Governor of ND Lions Clubs. He received the Melvin Jones Fellow for Dedicated Humanitarian Service, the most prestigious award for a Lion. He was also very active and involved in his church at St John Lutheran Church. He was past council member and usher at St John.

Ole is survived by his wife Ruth; his three children, Duane (Cindy) Sandvick, Mandan; Renae (Joe) Wanner, Gladstone and John Sandvick, Renton, Wash. Ole’s grandchildren are Jeremy (Cheryl) Wanner, Allison (John) Browning, Brandon Wanner, Stephanie (Deland) Weyrauch, Ryan Sandvick and Nicholas Sandvick. Ole’s great-grandchildren include Ashlynn and Maci Wanner and Bryer Browning. He also has many numerous nieces and nephews who are part of the Sandvick family.
