Orlen M. Sayler, 100, formerly of Dickinson, died on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at Missouri Slope, Bismarck. Orlen’s Funeral Service will be at 10 a.m., Friday, March 22, 2024 at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson with Pastor Janel Kolar as officiant. Interment will follow at the Dickinson Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday at Ladbury Funeral Service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service on Friday.
Orlen M. Sayler was born October 21, 1923 to Albert and Elizabeth (Rothman) Sayler on a farm near Underwood. Orlen married Florence Aldinger on July 28, 1945. The couple bought a farm near Falkirk, and resided there until 1975 when they purchased a dairy farm south of Dickinson.
In addition to farming Orlen was a member of the board of the Dickinson Rural Fire Department. He also served as a council member at the First Congregational Church in Dickinson. Orlen and Florence moved from their farm to Dickinson in 1990 where he continued to enjoy gardening and attending sporting events. Florence passed away in August of 2004.
Orlen moved to Park Avenue Villa assisted living in June of 2020 and resided there until October of 2023 when he moved to Missouri Slope Long-Term Care in Bismarck when it was determined that he needed a higher level of care.
He is survived by his companion, Gloria Wanner; his six children, Marylin Nelson, Fargo, Loren (Faye) Sayler, Mandan, Leo (Beth) Sayler, Minnewaukan, Dora (Mike) Lister, Wahpeton, Albert (Kimberly) Sayler, Batavia, OH, and Arlis (Mary) Sayler, Eden Valley, MN; as well as all five of Orlen’s siblings, Wilmer, Violet, Roy, Ralph, and Delbert; 22 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Florence; granddaughter, Sunshine; and great-grandson, Brandon.
