Oscar H. Klein December 17, 1936 - August 15, 2024

Date of Funeral

Tuesday, August 20, 2024

Oscar H. Klein, 87, Mott, died on Thursday, August 15, 2024 at Sanford Medical Center, Bismarck. Oscar’s Funeral Service will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at Mott Evangelical Community Church with Pastor Steven Meckle as officiant. Inurnment will take place at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan with Military Honors provide by the Mandan American Legion Honor Guard. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Oscar was born December 17, 1936 in Bismarck, son of Fred and Emma (Tintzman) Klein. He was raised and educated in rural Hettinger County near Mott while helping the family on the farm he eventually took over.

He married Bertha (Igard) Klein in August 1962 and together they had two boys, Greg, and Jamie.

After returning from National Guard training, Oscar worked for several farmers in southwest ND before returning to manage the family farm when his father fell ill, ultimately purchasing the farm from his parents a few years later.

Oscar was a continuous learner. From doing research to improve herd genetics in his cow-calf enterprise or researching feasibility of the next cash crop to working a stint at the Dickinson Press as a retiree (because he wondered how it worked and what it was all about), he had a deep-seated level of intellectual curiosity. He was a fun-loving guy; always had a smile on his face and loved to give people a hard time with his quick wit, especially kids. He also had a knack to strike up a conversation with anybody.

Oscar is survived by his wife, Bertha; his children, Greg (Kim) Klein, Highlands Ranch, CO and Jamie Klein, Mandan; five grandchildren, McKenna Klein, Highlands Ranch, Matthew Klein, Scottsdale, AZ, Raegan Klein, Detroit Lakes, MN, Aislinn Klein, Detroit Lakes, and Grayson Klein, Detroit Lakes; and one sister, Darlene Honeycutt, Chandler, AZ.

He was preceded in death by his parents; nine brothers, Andrew, Adam, Ervin, Bernard, William “Billy,” Richard, Elmer, Victor, and Marvin; and two sisters, Florence Klein, and Sophie Kissinger.
