Patricia “Pat” Mackey, 74, Regent, passed away, Tuesday, April 14, 2020 at her home. A Funeral Service for Patricia will be held at a later date.

Pat was born on March 1, 1946, to Paul and Hattie (Kovash) Oster. She was raised on a small family farm north of Gladstone. As the oldest of five girls, Pat was tasked with helping her dad with the outside farm chores. Pat attended and graduated from Gladstone School on May 22, 1964, and married Jerry Mackey the following day. She learned to master the skills of cooking and baking from her mother-in-law and husband.

Pat and Jerry raised six children: Dave, Jay, Dean, Jennifer, James and Janis. They lived in Dunn Center, as well as on the family farm along the Knife River in Dunn County, before retiring and moving to Regent.

Pat worked as a chef at the Stardust Supper Club, as well as a CNA at the Hill Top Home of Comfort in Killdeer. However, the job she enjoyed the most was being a wife to Jerry, a mom to her six kids and a grandma. Pat shared her love of cooking and baking with her family and friends. She enjoyed passing along family recipes, stories and traditions to her kids and grandkids. Pat was an avid gardener when her health permitted. Her huge garden always produced an abundance of vegetables and she didn’t let things go to waste.

Pat was a strong woman who endured a lot: she was a four-time cancer survivor and lived the past few years with congestive heart failure, diabetes and asthma. Through all her troubles, Pat stayed positive and looked forward to visits with family and friends. Pat will be remembered for her kind heart, her loving hugs, and the love she had for all her “keeds”.

Pat will be dearly missed by her husband of fifty-five years, Jerry Mackey, Regent; children, Dave (Tammy), Dickinson, Dean, Regent, Jennifer (Paul) Geppert, Omaha, Neb., Jim (Angie), Dickinson, and Janis (Matthew) Brinkley, Aliquippa, Pa.; grandchildren, Josh, Ryan (Kali), Courtney, Gavin, Avery, Damon, Rasia, Sofia, Frost, Drew and Braden; great-grandchildren, Bri, Chevelle and Taylen; sisters, Diana (Delmer) Entze, Dilworth, Minn, Geraldine (Dave) Taylor, Bismarck, Joyce (Curtis) Volesky, Brighton, Colo.; brother-in-law, Cliff Weiler, Gladstone; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son, Jay; parents; grandson, Darius; and sister, Rosie Weiler.
