Paul R. Peters, 88, Dickinson, died Thursday, September 25, 2014 at the Eastern Montana Veterans Home, Glendive, Mont. Paul’s funeral service will be at 1 p.m., Monday, September 29, 2014 at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, with Rev. Dick Rinearson officiating. Interment will take place at the Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, S.D. Military honors will be provided by the Dickinson Honors Team. Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Monday.
Paul Raymond Peters was born October 14, 1925 at Forest City, Iowa, the son of Oscar and May (Smith) Peters. At a young age the family moved to Cyrus, Minn., and then settled in Bowman where he completed his education. He served honorably in the United States Army for six years between January 26, 1944 and July 17, 1952. During this time he had fought in battles during WWII and the Korean Conflict, one being the Battle of the Bulge.
He returned to North Dakota and was united in marriage to Isabelle Schaff on October 20, 1952 at Miles City, Mont. To this union three children were born. Paul was a jack-of-all-trades, he owned and worked several different trades, such as, trucking, house moving, seismograph, and salvage yard. Retiring in the early 1990’s, he and Isabelle made Dickinson their home, and Isabelle died on May 10, 2009.
He was an avid mechanic, loved socializing, playing cards, and visiting. He was very fond of his pet dogs and cats, and loved spending time with his family.
Paul is survived by his three children, Paula (Doug) Anton, Dickinson, Jim Peters, Bowman, and Lisa (Doug) Kruckenberg, Mandan; two grandchildren, Jody (Keith) Billman, and Julie (Bryan) Albert; four great-grandchildren, Kyle, Carter, and Hannah Billman, and Jack Albert; one brother, Eugene (Laura) Peters, Bowman; sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Peters, and Patricia Peters; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Isabelle; his parents; and four siblings, Emery, Tom, Helen and Doris.
