Pauline E. Messmer, 86, died Wednesday November 13, 2019 surrounded by her family at St. Luke’s Home, Dickinson. Pauline’s Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Saturday, November 16, 2019 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dickinson with Msgr. Patrick Schumacher as celebrant. Interment will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation will be Friday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson with a rosary and vigil at 7 p.m. with Deacon Bob Stockert presiding. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Pauline Elizabeth Biel was born January 30, 1933 in Gladstone, the daughter of Ernest P. and Kathryn (Haich) Biel. Pauline attended rural grade school and graduated from Dickinson Central High School in 1950. She then attended Dickinson State Teachers College and earned her teaching degree. Pauline taught school a year in Springvale District, in Stark County, and two years at Highland District, in Hettinger County.

On August 16, 1954 she married Ernest L. Messmer of Mott. They made their home in Mott until 1966 and then moved to Dickinson. Together they had ten children. Pauline loved gardening, cooking and canning for her family.

In 2000 Pauline was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. On June 9, 2009, “The Love of her Life” Ernest, passed away suddenly. In 2010, Pauline moved to Hawks Point until December 2012. Due to her declining health Pauline entered St. Luke’s Home until July 2015. Then once again she moved into Hawks Point and resided there from 2015 until October 2017 at which time she returned to St. Luke’s until her passing.

Pauline was a member of Catholic Daughters 50 plus years, St. Ann’s Altar Society of St. Wenceslaus Parish. Both Pauline and Ernest were active members of St. Wenceslaus Parish.
