Penny R. Bennett, 61, formerly of Killdeer, died Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at San Antonio, Texas following a courageous battle with Leukemia. Penny’s funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Killdeer, with Rev. Joel Sauerwein officiating. Interment will follow at the Oakdale Cemetery, Killdeer. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.

Penny Ruth Bang was born March 6, 1949 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Dickinson, the daughter of Dale N. and Blanche (Johnson) Bang. She was raised on a ranch near Killdeer and received her education at Oakdale Country School and in Killdeer, graduating from Killdeer High School in 1967. Penny went on to attend NDSU in Fargo, graduating in 1971 with a BS Degree in Education with an emphasis in Textile and Clothing. While in Killdeer she began teaching Sunday School classes for younger children when she was only 10 years old, and she also played the piano for the church.

Penny married Benjamin Bennett on June 23, 1972 at St. John’s Evan. Lutheran Church, Killdeer. Shortly there after they moved to Texas where she has remained up until the time of her death. While in Texas she received her Real Estate License in the early 1980’s while in Uvalde, Texas, and she pursued a career in Real Estate, both in Uvalde and San Antonio. She was active in the San Antonio Rainbow Hills Baptist Church; as a children’s and adult Sunday School Teacher, the choir, and also Vacation Bible School for disadvantaged children.

Penny was the past President of the Green Thumb Garden Club, she enjoyed reading, sewing, had a love for her church, taking care of her grandchildren, and gardening. Penny cherished her visits back to North Dakota to visit with family and friends and to spend time on the farm.

Penny is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca (Steward) Facile, San Antonio; four grandchildren, John, Lillian, Robyn and Ashtin; her mother, Blanche Bang, Dickinson; and three siblings, Gale (Gordon) Scott, Lyman, Wyo., John (Stacy) Bang, Killdeer, and Carol (Kevin) McCoy, Eastsound, Wash. She was preceded in death by her father, Dale; brother, Thomas Bang; and her grandparents, Jerome and Ruth Johnson, and Tom and Mabel Bang.
