Peter G. Heinert, 72, Manning, ND, died suddenly on Sunday, March 18, 2007 at his home. Pete’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, March 22, 2007 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Dickinson with Fr. Dennis Schafer. Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery with military honors provided by the Veterans Drill Team. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Wednesday at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson. There will be a rosary and vigil at 7 p.m., Wednesday at Ladbury Funeral Service with Deacon Al Schwindt.

Peter G. Heinert was born on February 2, 1935 in rural Taylor to Carl Heinert, Sr. and Genevieve (Baer) Heinert. He grew up on a farm, attended rural school and graduated from Assumption Abbey High School, Richardton in 1953. He also graduated from Dickinson State Teachers College in 1955.

Pete married Eileen Heiser on October 13, 1958 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dickinson. They had 3 children, Sharol, Kevin and Curt.

Pete taught rural school in Stark and Dunn County for three years. He served in the US Army from 1959-1960, stationed at Ft. Harrison, Indiana and San Francisco, California.

In 1961 after returning from active duty, Pete worked for a short period at 1st National Bank and later engaged in farming up to the time of his death.

Pete was active in the community serving as past president and board member of the Farmers Union Manning Local, member of the Dunn County Farmers Union, member of the KC Council #1515, 4th Degree Knight, past member of the St. Anthony Club and Fraternal Order of Eagles. He also served as a board member of the Iota School District.

Pete enjoyed spending time with grandchildren, loved to cook (especially Borscht soup), fishing and working on his woodworking projects.

He is survived by his wife, Eileen; one daughter, Sharol (Mark) Haugen, Bismarck; two sons, Kevin (Laurie) Heinert, Dickinson, Curt (Marilyn) Heinert, Dickinson. His grandchildren Melissa and Brandon Heinert, Rachel, Jacob and Joshua Heinert; brothers Carl Jr., Dickinson and Stanley, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Thomas and Paul; one sister, Sr. Genevieve, one infant sister and one granddaughter, Sarah Haugen.
