Peter Stroh, 90, Dickinson, ND died Monday, June 9, 2008 at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson. Peter’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9 a.m., Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Dickinson with Fr. Biju Chitteth as the celebrant. Interment will take place at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan with Deacon Ralph Stockert presiding. Military Honors will be provided by the Veterans Drill Team following the mass. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday at Ladbury Funeral Service. There will be a rosary and vigil at 7 p.m., Tuesday at Ladbury Funeral Service with Deacon Ron Keller presiding.
Peter Stroh was born the son of Raphael and Klementina (Keller) Stroh on May 17, 1918 on the family farm South west of Manning, ND.
Peter married Barbara Hutmacher on February 16, 1944 at Fort Dix, New Jersey while he was serving in the military. Peter joined the United States Army on March 21, 1942 and served honorably until his discharge on September 27, 1945. While serving his country he had landed in Normandy and had fought throughout Europe including the Battle of the Bulge. Peter had received the Bronze Star and the Silver Star with oak leaf clusters, the Purple Heart, and several other field citations.
Peter and Barbara farmed in the Manning area from 1945 to 1959 at which time they moved into Dickinson. Peter worked for Bosch Lumber from 1960 to the mid 1980’s and during this time he had built numerous homes in Dickinson. He enjoyed woodworking, making rosaries, and in retirement continued helping others with their home repair jobs. Peter was a life member of the St. Anthony Club and the Eagles Club, and also belonged to the DAV, VFW and the American Legion.
Peter is survived by three sons, Robert (Linda), Williston, Tom (Kathy), Dickinson, and Kevin, Manassas, Va.; 10 grandchildren, Jody (Clinton) Richter, Javon Stroh, Jolene (Brian) Wanner, Bobbi Jo Stroh, Jonna Stroh, Mandy Rel, Tucker Stroh, Cooper Stroh, Parker Stroh and Madison Stroh; five great-grandchildren, Levi, Jordyn, Caden, Kalyn and Isabella; and four sisters, Eleanor Schmidt, Louise Faller, Josephine Hartman and Eva Kilzer, all of Dickinson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara on May 23, 2008; their infant son, Freddie; parents; two sisters; and three brothers.
