Peter W. Morel, 92, Dickinson, passed away on Friday, March 27, 2020 at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson. Pete’s Immediate and Extended Family Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, May 28, 2020 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Dickinson with Fr. Keith Streifel as celebrant. Inurnment will take place at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.

Peter was born on March 18, 1928, the son of Carl and Maria (Marcs) Morel. He attended rural Lincoln School.

On June 18, 1951, Pete married Mary Gerber. They lived on the farm until he was inducted into the Army on November 15, 1951. Serving during the Korean Conflict as Forward Observer for Artillery. On August 14, 1953, he received honorable discharge with rank of Sergeant.

In spring of 1954, they returned to the farm southeast of Dickinson where they were blessed with five children, Deborah, Douglas, Jason, Rick and Jodene. They were grain and dairy farmers. In 1989, he retired from farming and they moved to Dickinson. Pete was asked to come work in maintenance at Baker Boy, where he worked for a few years before retiring again.

He also was involved in the area as Director of SBD—Southwest rural water, K of C, officer in rural Lincoln School Board, The Farmers Union Local, Roughrider Square Dance Club, a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, where he served as usher, St. Pius Verein, St. Anthony, Eagles and Sunset Center. He enjoyed bowling, dancing, horseshoes, and playing pool with family and friends. His favorite hobby was woodworking and scroll work, making many beautiful items for family members. Pete was proud of his family.

Pete is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mary; children, Deborah (Bernard) Binstock, Douglas (Ann) Morel, Rick Morel, and Jodene Heim; grandchildren, Kristine (Brandon) Stevens, Gregory (Tina) Binstock, Melissa (Travis) Wolf, Josh (Pam) Morel, Lindsey Morel, Garrett Morel, Jesse (Whitney) Franchuk, Dustin Christensen, Fate (Dan) Schuster, Justin (Nicole) Morel, Ashley (Jason) White, Brittney (Trevor) Olheiser, and Skyler Heim; great-grandchildren, Sydney and Tanner Stevens, Payten, Carter and Kaitlyn Binstock, Colton, Jacob and Tiegen Wolf, Gracie, Warrick and Gavin Morel, Mary Smith, Jayson Morel, Kylie and Ryann Franchuk, Jaxon Christensen, Lydia Morel, and Carter, Kaden and Oliver White.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jason; brothers, Anton (Lena), Carl (Bertha and Fran), Nick (Betty) and George (Marie) Morel; sisters, Margaret (Bernard) Bergenhier, Catherine Rew, Elizabeth (James) Janes.
