Phelemen Barta, 101, Dickinson died Friday, December 5, 2008 at the St. Luke’s Home, Dickinson. Phelemen’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dickinson with Fr. Jim Braaten as the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m., Monday and from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., Tuesday at Ladbury Funeral Service. There will be a rosary and vigil at 6:30 p.m., Monday at Ladbury Funeral Service with Deacon Bob Stockert presiding.

Phelemen Kostelecky was born July 28, 1907 on the family farm south west of Dickinson in Stark County, the daughter of Josef and Marie (Krehlik) Kostelecky. She was raised and educated in the Dickinson area.

Phelemen married Anton A. “Tony” Barta on June 4, 1928 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. They lived and farmed north west of Dickinson in Billings County until 1948 when they moved into Dickinson. While on the farm they belonged to Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, New Hradec. Her husband Tony died September 16, 1974. Phelemen became a resident of the St. Luke’s Home in September of 2007.
