Phyllis R. Herold, 84, Dickinson, died Monday, January 6, 2020 at CHI St. Alexius Dickinson. Phyllis’ Celebration of Life Service will be at 9:30 a.m., Monday, January 13, 2020 at St. John Evan. Lutheran Church, Dickinson with Rev. Lisa Lewton officiating. Inurnment will follow at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation will be on Sunday from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Ladbury Funeral Service with a prayer service at 4 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
Phyllis R. Redetzke was born March 28, 1935 in Hettinger County, the youngest child to Gilbert and Ursula (Roe) Redetzke. She attended elementary school in the country and graduated from New England Public High School in 1953.
She met Joe Herold when she was working at St. Joseph’s Hospital in the summer of 1953. They were married on March 1, 1954 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Dickinson and to this union six children were born.
Phyllis had worked at the German Hungarian Club and St. Anthony Club. Following her retirement, she became active in the VFW Auxiliary where she had served three terms as president. She was also very active in the community as a volunteer for many years.
She belonged to the St. Anthony Club, the Sunset Senior Center, VFW Auxiliary and RSVP. She enjoyed reading, playing cards, liked to try new recipes and singing with Joe at the nursing homes.
Phyllis is survived by her husband, Joe, Dickinson; children, Daniel (Mary Ellen), Dickinson, Randall (Heidi), Coeur d´Alene, Idaho, Thomas, Dickinson, Karla (Al) Schweiger, Dickinson and Michael (Nan), Hettinger; daughter-in-law, Joyce Herold, Dickinson; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Arlene (Earl) Doe, New England; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Herold, Dickinson and Angie Nuss, Dickinson; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, Timothy, in 1997; her parents; brother, Ralph; and sister, Dorothy Hoffer. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.
