Raphael Balzer Hauck was born January 30, 1920 on the family farm near Richardton, the son of Vincent and Monica (Berger) Hauck. He was raised and educated in the Richardton area, having attended the Assumption Abbey for a short time. He was a farmer his entire life north of Richardton.
Raphael married Regina R. Staudinger on June 11, 1941 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and this union was blessed with seven children. Ray and Regina enjoyed 70 years of marriage, being partners in farming and raising their family. Together they entered St. Benedict’s Health Center in January 2012.
They shared a life with faith in Jesus and to live for Him. Ray loved music and had belonged to the Friday Night Gang for years. When he was a young lad, he would serenade the cattle with his accordion and harmonica. Ray and Regina spent 21 years in Yuma, Ariz., being snow birds and made many dear friends there. Ray enjoyed fishing and was a great handyman. He would read his bible daily, and loved his Catholic faith, especially the rosary and the Holy Mass. They also belonged to the Good Sam Club, the Knights of Columbus, and he was a Farmers Union Director.
Raphael is survived by his wife, Regina; their seven children, Delila (Francis) Mayer, Mott, Rodney (Bonnie) Hauck, Dickinson, Janie (Paul) Tormaschy, Gladstone, Nancy (Ronald) Mongeon, Lincoln, Neb., Daryl (Alaine) Hauck, Inver Grove Heights, Minn., Pam (Tim) Doehler, Perth, and Lyle (Lisa) Hauck, Fergus Falls, Minn.; 24 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren whom he especially enjoyed and honored; and one sister, Lena Seiler, Yuma, Ariz.
