Raymond M. Malkowski, 73, Dickinson, formerly of Belfield, died Thursday, June 20, 2013 at Sanford Health, Bismarck. Abiding by Ray’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be a service of remembrance/funeral service at 10 a.m., Monday, June 24, 2013 at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, with Rev. James Hessler officiating. Inurnment will take place at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Military flag presentation will be provided by the Dickinson Honors Team. Visitation will be on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., and on Monday from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service.

Raymond Michael Malkowski was born in Dickinson, on October 1, 1939 to Anna (Demianew) Malkowski and Michael Malkowski. He grew up on a farm north of Belfield and attended Belfield Public School where he graduated in 1958.

In 1959, Ray joined the United State Air Force. After leaving the Air Force, Ray worked for the next forty –four years as a heavy equipment operator for various oilfield companies, most notably L.P. Anderson and Trotters Construction. He retired in October 2004.

Ray married Elsie Arnell on September 24, 1962 at St. John’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Belfield.

Ray enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, and feeding Blue Jays and squirrels. On Sundays from August to February, he could be found in his favorite chair clad in green and yellow cheering on his Green Bay Packers.

Ray is survived by his wife Elsie; daughters, Sheila (Bob) Hlibichuk, and Sandra (Jim) Deichert, both of Dickinson; and son, Bryan (Jill) Malkowski, Broomfield, Colo.; his brother, Arthur (Cheryl) Malkowski, Belfield; five grandchildren, Joshua (Liz), Dustin, and Amanda Hlibichuk, Kelsey and Austin Deichert and two great-grandchildren, Isaiah and Vivienna Hlibichuk. Ray is preceded in death by his parents Michael and Anna Malkowski.
