Reinhold “Reiny” Mayer, Jr., 95, Dickinson, died on Thursday, July 6, 2023 at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson. Reiny’s Funeral Service will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, July 13, 2023 at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson with Rev. Lisa Lewton officiating. Interment will take place at Dickinson Cemetery, Dickinson.

Reinhold J. Mayer, Jr. was born into a musical family on September 26, 1927 on the family farm near Antelope, the son of Reinhold and Helen (Vietz) Mayer, Sr. He was one of eleven children and was raised and educated in the Antelope area.

Reinhold was united in marriage to Gertrude “Gertie” Sailer on July 9, 1950 in Hebron and to this union, four children were born. He worked as a painter, but his focus was as a musician. Reiny spent countless hours playing music for functions such as: weddings, anniversaries and other various functions which included a tv show. All of this was done without ever being able to read music; Reiny played by ear.

Reiny is survived by four children, Linda (Jim) Jundt, Rugby, Jerry (Diane) Mayer, Dickinson, Don (Susan) Mayer, Dickinson and Susan (Tom) Phillips, San Antonio, TX; seven grandchildren, Michelle Smith, Jason (Soe) Mayer, Trisha (Danny) Holtzclaw, Jeremy Mayer, Kari Phillips, Troy Herberholz, and Justin (Lisa) Herberholz; seven great-grandchildren, Kristopher (Rose) Chapman, Wayne Smith, Sheldon Steckler, Lauren Holtzclaw, Gillian Holtzclaw, Brynley Herberholz, and Eden Herberholz; siblings, Lorraine (Bob) Angeloti and Edgar (Joy) Mayer; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertie, on March 24, 2022; parents; and siblings, Wilbert Mayer, Alice Remfert, Arnold Mayer, Ray Mayer, Melvin Mayer, Irvin Mayer, Ruth Binek, and infant sister, Mary Mayer.
