Richard D. Schumacher, 57, Halliday, ND, died Saturday, May 12, 2007 from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. Richard’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 17, 2007 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Richardton, ND, with Fr. Patrick Schumacher as the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Martin’s Cemetery, rural Halliday. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Wednesday at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church. There will be a rosary and vigil at 7 p.m., Wednesday at Ladbury Funeral Service.

Richard D. Schumacher was born January 8, 1950 in Dickinson, ND, the son of Leo and Eva (Klein) Schumacher. He was raised and educated south of Halliday and graduated from Halliday High School in 1968. Following his graduation he began ranching south of Halliday on his family ranch.

Richard married Paulette Karlson on February 20, 1971 in Underwood, ND. Together they were ranching south of Halliday.

Richard enjoyed working with his cattle and horses, companionship of his dog, his morning coffee and talking with good friends. He loved his grandchildren, roping and riding, and helping his neighbors and friends. Richard was always willing to listen to a good story from the times past and present. Richard was a member of the North Dakota Stockmen’s Association, he was a local brand inspector for the past 32 years, belonged to the Knights of Columbus, Farmers Union, and the Dodge, Halliday, Richardton and Hebron Saddle Clubs.

Richard is survived by his wife, Paulette; his son, Harley and soon to be daughter-in-law DeAnn, Halliday; three daughters, Tina & Russell Kahl, Mandan, ND, Tera & Curt Kahl, Belfield, and Rita & Justin Tystad, Newcastle, WY; seven grandchildren, Kaylie, Cortney, Madison, Tyler, Peyton, Gracie P., and Hogan; two brothers, Dan (Marvel) Schumacher, Sentinel Butte, ND, and Jonas (Kathy) Schumacher, Dickinson; three sisters, Carol (Adrienne) Luptak, Dickinson, Marlene (Jim) Lindquist, Bismarck, and Mary (Jim) Rice, Dickinson. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Ray and Arlin.
