Richard M. Berger, 78, Dickinson, passed away Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson, with family at his side. Richard’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Msgr. Patrick Schumacher as the celebrant. Interment will follow at the Dickinson Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church. There will be a rosary and vigil at 6 p.m., Tuesday, with Deacon Bob Zent presiding.

He was born May 18, 1940 to John C. & Beatrice (Bernhardt) Berger and grew up on the family farm north of Richardton. He attended school at the Assumption Abbey.

Richard married Joyce McNamara on February 1, 1964 and together they raised three children, Jim, Mary and Susan. They were married for 46 years until Joyce’s passing in 2010.

Richard spent his career working for the City of Dickinson Street Department as a heavy equipment operator and foreman. He also served in the North Dakota National Guard. He thoroughly enjoyed anything to do with farming or heavy equipment (aka yellow junk). He was a dedicated family man who enjoyed traveling, tinkering and fixing just about anything. Richard was a proud grandfather and treasured his title of “Pa”.

Richard is survived by his children, Jim (Gayle) Berger, Dickinson, Mary (Dan) Huse, Woodbury Minn., Susan (Chris) Wilkins, St Louis, Mo.; sister, Lorraine (Lee) Swanson; brother, Victor Berger; and eight grandchildren, Brittany & Beth Berger, Lily, Hadley & Finley Wilkins, Calvin, Lexi & Hana Huse.

Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce; his parents; brothers, Edward, Albert, Kenneth, Lawrence & John; and his sister, Beatrice Heck.
