Robert Dennis Norton, age 81, Regent, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Robert’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 6, 2025 at St. Henry’s Catholic Church with Fr. Dennis Schafer as celebrant and Fr. Chris Kadrmas as concelebrant. Interment will take place at Regent Cemetery, Regent. Military Honors will be provided by the Mott American Legion Post 71. Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday at St. Henry’s Catholic Church with a Rosary and Vigil at 7 p.m. with Fr. Chris Kadrmas presiding. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the Mass at the church on Saturday.
Born on May 30, 1944, to Charles and Grace Norton, Robert lived a life of dedication, service, and love. A proud American and patriot, he served his country with honor in the Vietnam War as a member of the elite Airborne Rangers—November Company, 173rd Airborne Division. He later continued his military service as a respected Drill Sergeant, shaping the lives of many young soldiers.
After returning home, Robert served his community with equal commitment. He worked for 20 years as a Hettinger County Sheriff and was a proud graduate of the FBI and police academy, earning the trust and respect of those he protected. Earning himself the distinguished award from the North Dakota Peace Officers Association “Lone Eagle” award. He also spent part of his career as a lineman with Montana-Dakota Utilities (MDU), where he was known for his work ethic and dedication.
Robert was a man of many passions. He found peace and excitement in the outdoors, enjoying hunting, fishing, and the open road. His love for motorcycles led him to found the Road Rangers Motorcycle Club, where he built a brotherhood rooted in freedom, camaraderie, and adventure.
He is survived by his brothers, William Norton and Brian (Diane) Norton; his children, Shawn (Kris) Norton, Shelly Bourquin, Garavonia (Jim) Rueb, Tara (Greg) Friedt, Ryan Norton, and Killian (Lacey) Norton. He was a proud grandfather to Connor Norton, Nathan Altendorf, Gabriel Brusko, Dillion Schramm, Aidan Friedt, Tevyn Friedt, Brennen Friedt, Otis Norton, Truett Norton, Shelby (Tim) McConnell, Nicole (Ty) Bauman, Alexandra Brusko, Kinley Friedt, Emma Norton, Aven Norton, Keary (Kasey) Berger, and Jenna Rueb. His legacy continues through his great-grandsons, Xavier Gonzalez, Tristan Norton, Riley Norton and Wylee Berger; great-granddaughters, Haily McConnell, Raven McConnell, Violet McConnell, Chaney Bauman, Paden Bauman, and Oaklee Berger.
Robert was preceded in death by his son, Timothy Norton; granddaughter, Krystal Bourquin; his parents, Charles and Grace Norton, and his sister, Peggy Whittle.
Robert lived with strength, purpose, and a heart full of love for his family and country. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
