Robert J. Hammond, 73, Dickinson, passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at his home. Robert’s Celebration of Life Service will be at 1 p.m., Wednesday, August 13, 2025 at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson.

Robert was Born in Raton, New Mexico, son of Orvar J. and Alice (Sandoval) Hammond, but grew up in Albuquerque, NM. Robert loved the outdoors and after graduating high school at Del Norte High he traveled and visited many friends around the US. His favorite state, and one of many places he called home, was Alaska. Robert loved to go camping, golfing, fishing, and was an avid reader. 

Robert married Rita Frenzel on November 25, 1988. They met while both working for BJ Services in Dickinson, ND. They were married for 17 years. Robert and Rita continued to maintain a close friendship while raising their family.

Robert graduated from Bismarck State College with a degree in heating & air conditioning and worked for Temp Right Service Inc in Dickinson, ND. He worked the majority of his adult life in the oil field, concluding his working years with Wyoming Casing. 

Robert loved and enjoyed his children. Robert and Christopher enjoyed watching sports and movies together and he loved taking his daughter Nicollett swimming and for bike rides. All three children picked up his love for music. Nicollett picked up his amazing cooking skills and Christopher his love for vinyl records.

Robert is survived by his children, Christopher Hammond, Nicollett Whitlow (Spencer), and Tracie Willson (Scott); three grandchildren, Bradley Schmidt (Dannah), Nicholas Schmidt, and Grace Schmidt; niece, Brenda Lindsay and her children; sister-in-law, Elaine Thompson and her children; brother-in-law, Joe (Sandi) Frenzel and their children; and good friend/ex-wife Rita Tomchuk. 

Robert had numerous cherished friends he leaves behind.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents Orvar J. and Alice S. Hammond, sister Victoria Dubose, niece Alice Ann Thompson, nephew Judge Dubose, in-laws Joseph and Rose Frenzel, and brother-in-law Eugene Thompson. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Mayo Clinic Heart Research or a young golf program of your choice.
