Robert Portscheller, 91, Dickinson, died on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 surrounded by his family following a 1 1/2 year stay at St. Luke’s Home, Dickinson. Robert’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, September 13, 2025 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dickinson with Fr. Robert Shea as celebrant. Military honors will be provided by the Dickinson American Legion Post 3 Honor Guard. Inurnment will take place at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, on Monday. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson with a Rosary & Vigil at 7 p.m. with Deacon Bob Zent presiding. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the Mass at the church.
Robert Portscheller was born November 26, 1933 in Richardton, the son of John and Bertha (Kelsch) Portscheller. He was raised and educated in the Richardton and Hebron area. He joined the United States Army on August 31, 1954 and served honorably until August 18, 1956. Following his discharge, he returned home to assist the family on the farm after his dad became ill.
Robert was united in marriage to Beatrice Hamann on January 30, 1958 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Dickinson. He worked at Beaudoin Concrete prior to beginning his career as a custodian with the Dickinson Public Schools at Lincoln Elementary, retiring in the mid 1990’s.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Robert enjoyed bowling, playing cards, playing softball, gardening, and playing accordion with the Bob Portscheller Duo, and making an occasional trip to Las Vegas. He was also an avid Yankees and Colts fan.
Robert is survived by his wife, Beatrice Portscheller, Dickinson; daughters, Deborah (Albert) Urban, Dickinson, Carla (Carmen) Lovato, Dickinson, Karen Hipsak, Bismarck, Gail Wallace, Dickinson, Doreen (Shannon) McGillivray, Beulah, and Lisa (Scott) Sailer, Bismarck; 11 grandchildren, Ginger Urban, Amanda (Chaz Bess) Warwick, Christopher (Shanna) Urban, Alicia (Justin) Bridge, Aimee (Chris) Kadrmas, Kristen (Jason Lanegraff) Lovato, Kari Hipsak, Keith Hipsak, Brandon (Houston) Wallace, Brandi (Rex) Red Bird, and Brady (Mariah Lloyd) Kauk; eight great-grandchildren, Tyler Warwick, Alivia Urban, Mia Kadrmas, Kaison Lanegraff, Lachlan Wallace, Callum Wallace, Aubrey Red Bird, and Benjamin Red Bird; siblings, Richard Portscheller, Marie Sandberg, Arlene Woroniecki, Don Portscheller, John (LaDonna) Portscheller, and Roger (Linda) Portscheller; numerous nieces and nephews; and his St. Luke’s Family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Wendy Urban; son-in-law, Dave Hipsak; siblings and spouses, Harvey Portscheller, Lorraine (Tony) Rebel, Steve Woroniecki, and Darlene Portscheller.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Luke’ s Home Foundation.
