Roger A. Stone, 82, Dickinson, died on Wednesday, June 18, 2025 at his home. Roger’s Celebration of Life Remembrance will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, July 10, 2025 at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson. There will be a Gathering of Family and Friends from 1 p.m-2 p.m. on Thursday at Ladbury Funeral Service. Private Inurnment will take place at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Dickinson.
Roger Allen Stone was born in Cooperstown to Nellie (Allen) Clarence Stone on April 10, 1943. He was raised and educated in Cooperstown, having graduated from Cooperstown High School in 1961 and Mayville State College in 1965 with degrees in Business and Biological Science. He also took graduate studies at the University of North Dakota.
Roger married his lifelong partner, Paula Dickson from Gilby on June 11, 1966 in Grand Forks and to this union three children were born, Marnie, Troy, and Mandy.
He had a lengthy career of teaching and coaching which included: one year of teaching at Sheyenne High School, ten years of teaching and coaching at Harvey High School, and 27 years of teaching and coaching at Dickinson High School.
During his career, Roger was selected to serve on North Central Accreditation Committees, North Dakota High School Activities Association Football Advisory Committees, and football playoff committees. He was a past president of the North Dakota High School Coaches Association. Roger was also North Dakota High School Coaches Association Coach of the Year and a WDA Football Coach of the Year. He was honored to be selected to the Dickinson High School Athletic Hall of Fame on October 5, 2024.
Roger had a special appreciation for all the coaches, athletes, teachers, and students who provided him with many fond memories.
He enjoyed any type of home renovation projects—painting, woodworking, and concrete work. He had a special interest in sports (especially those his grandsons participated in). Throughout the years he enjoyed hunting, camping, and fishing. He had lots of fond memories of time spent at Lake Sakakawea. Most of all Roger enjoyed time spent with family and friends.

Roger was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Paula; daughters, Marnie, Bismarck and Mandy (special companion, Justan Stroh); son, Troy (Erica), West Fargo; grandsons, Grayden, Bismarck, Nolan and Ian, West Fargo, and Emrik Hanneman, Dickinson; brother and sister-in-law, Bruce (Nancy) Dickson; nephew, Bradley Stone; nieces, Heather (Bob) Sieloff, Kelly (Matt) Cooper, Lisa (Mike) Humberd, and Jamie (Eric) Rice. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; brother, Jeffrey; sister-in-law, Barb DeKrey.
