Rolland Svihl, 90, New Hradec, died Friday, November 3, 2017 surrounded by family at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson. Rolland’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Friday, November 10, 2017 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, New Hradec, with Fr. William Ruelle as the celebrant. Inurnment will follow at Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. There will be a rosary and vigil at 7 p.m., Thursday at Ladbury Funeral Service.

Rolland Svihl was born March 26, 1927 in Dickinson, son of Frank and Agnes (Pirkl) Svihl. He was raised and educated in Dickinson and following elementary school, he helped out on the farm until he left home.

Rolland was united in marriage to Yvonne Kruger on October 19, 1955 in Dickinson, and to this union 11 children were born. He worked various jobs throughout his life. He worked for Robert F. Kadrmas and many farmers around the community as a hired hand. He worked at Huskey’s Briquetting plant until retirement.

After retirement, Rolland and Yvonne worked for Sts. Peter and Paul Church for 38 years. He loved to work on cars and lawn mowers. His love for yodeling made everyone around him smile.

Rolland is survived by his wife, Yvonne, New Hradec; children, Cyndi (Charlie) Noyce, Dickinson, Marvin (Kari) Svihl, New Hradec, Marcey (Charlton) Courtney, New Hradec, Roger (Carol) Svihl, Mandan, Carmey (Larry) Frank, Rhame, Shannon Svihl, New Hradec and Blaine (Jill) Svihl, N.C.; 15 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; brother, Gordon Svihl, Dickinson; and brother-in-law, Dick Payne, Dickinson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughters, Shelley Courtney and Darla Svihl; sons, Rolland Svihl, Jr. and Bradley Svihl; six sisters, Emma (Louis) Kadrmas, Mildred (Andrew) Binstock, Betty (Clemence) Hutzenbuler, Blanche Payne, Lillian Svihl and Dorthy Svihl; five brothers, Henry (Hatti) Svihl, Albert (Ann) Svihl, Charlie (Pauline) Svihl, George (Grace) Svihl, and Ben (Betty Jane) Svihl; one granddaughter, Sara Svihl; and sister-in-law, Shirley Svihl.
