Visitation will continue one hour before Mass.
Our dad was born on September 28, 1940 in Dickinson to George and Rose Kadrmas. He attended elementary school and high school in Dickinson, graduating in 1959. During his early career years, he helped on the family farm. In addition, he worked at the Dic Kota meat packing plant in Dickinson. He then turned his attention to and became skillfully talented in the building, construction, and remodeling industries. He had a talent for building, a trade and passion he passed onto his son, Wade. Dad formed Ron’s Construction in the 1970’s and was responsible for many projects, big and small, around the Dickinson area extending to Alexandria, MN, Montana, and Arizona. He would proudly point out his work while taking a drive with anyone. His projects included the original Kadrmas, Lee and Jackson building in Dickinson. It was a proud moment for his daughters to point out the Target store in Scottsdale that he was an integral part of building. His work ethics and hard work were passed down to his children.
Dad married our mom, Jeanette Sivak, on October 8, 1962 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Belfield. Five children were born from this union: Craig, Jason, Deanne, Janel, and Wade. Mom and dad briefly resided in West Fargo, and Mesa, AZ, but Dickinson was home. Dad bought our family home in 1969 and resided there until his death.
Dad loved to play bingo, polka dancing, going for rides-especially through the Theodore Roosevelt National Park looking at the wild horses, bison, and other animals. After each ride, he would call us children to give us an account of all the animals he saw. Story telling was also something he loved to do and whoever went for rides with him would hear stories of times past, learned names of people who lived in the houses dad would point out, and so much more!
He was an avid coin collector, making sure to collect coins for his grandchildren. He was also a great cook, always cooking enough food to “feed an army”! He loved to cook and then give away food to anyone who stopped by the house. Dad’s mashed potatoes were the best and will never be able to replicate. Dad also enjoyed hanging out at Irene’s antique store and helping her. Together they made a pub table out of an old sewing machine. He also was never short on advice when any of us children were doing a project or home renovation. If we were working on something at his house, he would sit and supervise our work.
Dad attended mass faithfully until 2020 and then he participated by watching on TV which included 5:15 am wake up phone calls to dad so he wouldn’t miss mass.
Dad is survived by four children, Jason (Luz) Kadrmas, Mandan, Deanne Gibeault, Scottsdale, AZ, Janel Rubert, Bismarck, and Wade (Ashlee Spence), Dickinson; ten grandchildren, Jared (Mickala) Pierce, Lincoln, Alexis Pierce (Jordan Henderson), all of Bismarck; Brooklyn (Ben) Olin, Dickinson, Madison (Cody Miller) Kadrmas, all of Dickinson; Kaitlyn (Mason Grimes) Kadrmas, Bison, SD; Dakota (Ashton Sakansky) Gibeault, Westminster, CO; Kayla Gibeault, Scottsdale, AZ; Jessica (JD) Woodbury, Mandan; Jordan Kadrmas, Bismarck; and Cory Kadrmas, Red Rock, AZ; six great-grandchildren, Braxton, Ayden, Connor, Layken, Hayzen and Parker; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, Charles Sivak and Bob Holland and sisters-in-law, Virginia Holland and Darlene Random. He will also be missed by special family friend, Irene Polly.
Dad was preceded in death by our mom, Jeanette in 2010; our brother, Craig in 1991; his parents; siblings, Gerald, Herald, and Paulette; two grandsons, Weston and Birch Kadrmas; and many other relatives and friends.
Our family has been truly blessed by the selflessness and generosity of our brother, Wade, who helped Dad in countless ways throughout the years. We are also especially grateful to Dad’s granddaughter, Kayla, for the love, support, and assistance she so willingly provided toward the end. We are also deeply grateful to everyone who assisted Dad by caring for his yard, tending his flowers, and offering help in so many other ways.
We extend our sincere thanks to Christa and the CHI St. Alexius Dickinson Hospice team for the compassionate care and support they provided to our dad.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:7-8
