Ronald “Ron” R. Steiner, 57, Dickinson, ND, died Saturday, July 28, 2007 at MedCenter One, Bismarck, ND. Ron’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, August 1, 2007 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Dickinson with Fr. Dennis Schafer as the celebrant. Interment will take place at Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Amidon, ND. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson. There will be a vigil at 7 p.m., Tuesday at Ladbury Funeral Service.
Ronald R. Steiner was born March 27, 1950 at Amidon, ND, the son of Martin and Jean (Morland) Steiner. He was raised and educated in Amidon and then attended St. Mary’s High School in New England, ND, graduating in 1968. Ron went to Dickinson State College where he received a Bachelors Degree in Secondary Education. He went on to teach science at Williston Jr. High School for the next eight years. During this time he also pursued a Master degree in Aquatic Biology from Bemidji State.
Ron accepted the position as the Assistant Principal at Dickinson High School in 1980. He changed his masters work to administration and received a Master in Administration from Northern State in Aberdeen, SD. Following eight years as the Assistant Principal at DHS, he was named Principal of Hagen Jr. High School, a position he held for the next 16 years, retiring in 2004. Ron has continued to supervise student teachers at Dickinson State University.
Ron married Jean Knopp on February 6, 1971 in Amidon. Through his professional and personal aspirations he was involved in several local and state committees for the betterment of the community and education in general. Ron enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing softball and sports in general. He was a dedicated local athletic supporter and a devoted “Packer Fan”. Over the past five years Ron and Jean have raised and trained German Wirehaired Pointers. They also competed in and judged National Shoot to Retrieve Assoc. field trials.
Ron is survived by his wife, Jean; their two children, Rhonda (BJ) Kuntz, Page, ND, and Ryan (Melissa) Steiner, Fargo, ND; five grandchildren, Jacob, Rose, Logan and Evelyn Kuntz, and Jentz Steiner; and five siblings, Gail (Les) Mason, Bismarck, ND, Neal (Beth) Steiner, Dickinson, Dennis (Jill) Steiner, Fargo, Dan (Julie) Steiner, Moorhead, MN, and Tricia (Brian) Miller, Bismarck. He was preceded in death by his parents, and an infant sister, Maria Linda Steiner.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in memory of Ron.
