Rose V. Huschka was born September 10, 1927 southwest of South Heart, daughter of Anton and Philipina (Wanner) Huschka. She was raised and educated in the South Heart area. Rose taught school for four years in three different country schools. When she taught at a country school two miles from the Krebs farm, she met Tom Krebs. They were married less than a year later on June 15, 1948 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, South Heart. They lived, farmed and raised cattle, pigs and chickens on the Krebs family homestead. They also raised 13 children, 11 girls and two boys. Tom had his first stroke at age 70 and Rose took care of him for seven years until his passing.

She enjoyed collecting angel figurines, crocheting, playing pinochle, and watching EWTN. She waited for family gatherings at the farm and afterwards always asked someone to count the number of guests which was usually 70 + guests. In her younger years she baked 15 to 20 loaves of bread a week for her family. It was delicious.
