Roselle Marie Schmidt March 20, 1933 - December 4, 2021

Roselle Marie Schmidt, 88, passed away Saturday, December 4, 2021 in Coeur D’Alene, Idaho.

She was born March 20, 1933 to Vern and Marie Tate of Casselton, ND.  She graduated with Valedictorian honors at Lincoln High School in Casselton, and then attended college in Valley City, ND, to earn her teaching degree. She taught all 8 grades in Casselton area country schools.

In 1955 she married Jerome Schmidt and left the flat lands of the Red River Valley to the hills and buttes of western ND. They farmed and ranched near Manning until Jerome’s sudden death in 1995.

Growing things was one of her passions, with an enormous vegetable garden, and flowers, flowers everywhere, always happy to share.  Some will remember the feasts she cooked up on branding day and holidays.  If anyone showed up at mealtime they never left hungry!

Being Mom and Grandma made her happiest.  She loved the “littles”. Always had time for a tea party or pretend adventure.

In 2000 she relocated her home to the Dickinson area and in 2014 to Coeur D’Alene. She dearly loved her last years there in the mountains, with kids all around.

She was a good friend, a good neighbor, a fine example, and the best Mom and Grandma any kid ever had.  She’ll be missed beyond measure.

She leaves behind a brother, James Tate, sons, Kevin (Cyndee), Colin (Carolee), daughter, Kimberlee (Cordell) Bader, five grandkids, Jason (Sheryl) Schmidt, Chrystal (Joe) Fude, Tanner Schmidt, Ashlee (John) Schaeffer, Tyler Bader, and 10 great grandkids, Jayden and Matthew (Schmidt), Logan, Dawson, Sawyer, Morgan, Bridger and Irelan (Fude), Haylee and Luke (Schaeffer).

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jerome, and one grandchild, Levi Dornbusch.

At her request, a family service and burial will be at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church and cemetery in Coeur D’Alene. In lieu of flowers, please request masses in her memory or donate to your favorite charity.
