Roy Karey, Jr. was born January 2, 1929 in Dickinson, the son of Roy Karey, Sr. and Elizabeth “Betty” (Boehm) Karey. He was raised and educated in Killdeer, graduating from Killdeer High School in 1947.

Sonny married Agnes “Aggie” Roshau on June 14, 1949 in Killdeer. Following their marriage they co-owned and operated Karey Motor Sales in Killdeer for 12 years. When the business was destroyed by fire they moved to the farm where he farmed for several years. Sonny and Aggie also owned and operated Sonny’s Bar in Manning from 1975 to 1979. Sonny was co-owner of M&O Construction also prior to going to work for Williston Tank Rental where he eventually retired from.

Sonny and Aggie were high school sweethearts and best friends. Since Aggie’s death there hadn’t been a day that his heart didn’t long to be with the love of his life. He was a loving father and grandfather who always took great delight in seeing his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Whenever he was able to he loved to visit with friends and coffee buddies. He will be dearly missed by his children, their families and his friends. It is a great comfort to know that Dad and Mom are spending their 58th Anniversary together on June 14th, and we hope “you dance”.

Sonny is survived by seven children, Wanda (Charles) Welch, Patty (Tim) Sadowsky, Bowman, ND, Mary (Bill) Sharff, Bismarck, Joan (Jay) Spethman, Killdeer, Tom (Marietta) Karey, Jeff (Twyla) Karey, Manning, ND, and Mike (Julie) Karey, Killdeer; 12 grandchildren, Scott (Faye) Bergan, Chad (Robin) Welch, Tyler (Ellen) Schaff, Curt Welch, Karey (Ryan) Eisenbarth, Joel Spethman, Jodi (Joe) Rummel, Joshua Karey, Zach Karey, Moriah Karey, Ethan Karey and Ryan Karey; seven great-grandchildren, Trevor Smolniker, Emma Welch, Olivia Welch, Kylie Bergan, Joran Bergan, Eli Schaff, and baby Schaff (due in July); and many nieces and nephews.
